Dr Web Cureit, Malwarebyte and Spybot will remove virus and malware threats that are detected for free. I recommend you print these instructions before you begin.

 

Run Free Dr Web Cureit Scan
To download Dr Web Cureit http://www.freedrweb.com/?lng=en

1. The link to download is at top right of the page, Click “Free Download”. Scroll to the bottom of the new page and Click “the box” beside “I accept Dr.Web License Agreement.” Click the Continue button. (If Continue is grayed out verify there is a check mark in the box) A new window will come up asking “Do you want to Run or Save this file?” (If the new window does not come up Click “Here” on “Your download will begin shortly. If it does not, click here to start it manually.”) Click “Save”, take note of where you are saving it. I recommend changing the file name to dr web and saving it to the desktop, Click “Save”.

2. Double click the “Dr. Web Icon” then Click “Run”. If a window come up that says “User Account Control – A program needs your permission to Continue” Click “Continue”. You will see a window that says License and updates. Click “the box” beside “I agree to participate in software…” Click “Continue” (If Continue is grayed out verify there is a check mark in the box). In the new window Click “Start Scanning” the Express scan will start automatically.

3. Take a Screenshot (See ** How to take a screenshot) of the results.

4. If a threat is detected it will show Neutralize on the right. Click “Neutralize” to remove the threat.

5. Click the Red X at the top right to close Dr Web and restart the computer before running the Complete Scan.

6. I recommend running the Complete Scan on a regular basis as it will check all locations for a virus. The Express Scan checks all the locations most likely to contain a virus. Double click the “Dr. Web Icon” then Click “Run”. If a window come up that says “User Account Control – A program needs your permission to Continue” Click “Continue”. You will see a window that says License and updates. Click “the box” beside “I agree to participate in software…” Click “Continue” (If Continue is grayed out verify there is a check mark in the box). In the new window Click “Select objects for scanning” below the Start Scanning button. In the new window Click “the box” beside “Scanning Objects”. Next Click “Click to select files and folders” link at the bottom of the window. Select all the boxes and click “OK”. On the right Click “Start scanning” the Complete scan will start automatically.

7. Take a Screenshot (See ** How to take a screenshot) of the results.

8. If a threat is detected it will show Neutralize on the right. Click “Neutralize” to remove the threat.

9. Click the Red X at the top right to close Dr Web and restart the computer.

10. Repeat steps 6 to 8 until there are no more threats detected.

 

 

Run Free Malwarebytes Anti Malware

1. The link to download is at top left of the page, Click “Download Now”. A new window will come up asking “Do you want to Run or Save this file?” (If the new window does not come up at the top of the webpage Click the “Internet Explorer Information bar.” Click “Download File”.) Click “Save”, take note of where you are saving it. I recommend saving it to the desktop, Click “Save”. Free ads that say Free Download may come up on the website. This is not the Malwarebytes download file.

2. Install Malwarebyte by double clicking mbam-setup.exe and following the instructions. Please read the instructions carefully.

3. Open Malwarebyte. If a window come up that says “User Account Control – A program needs your permission to Continue” Click “Continue”. Click the “Update” tab at the top.

4. To start the Express Scan Click “Scan Now” at the bottom right.

5. When the scan is completed if a threat is detected on the bottom left there will be “Neutralize All”. Click Neutralize All.

6. Click the Red X at the top right to close Malwarebytes and restart the computer before running the Custom Scan.

7. Open Malwarebyte. If a window come up that says “User Account Control – A program needs your permission to Continue” Click “Continue”. Click “Scan” at the top beside Dashboard. Select Custom Scan and Click Scan Now at the bottom right. Put a check mark on all drive letters. Example C: E: F: “Click Start Scan” at the bottom right.

8. I recommend running the Custom Scan on a regular basis as it will check all locations for a virus. The Express Scan checks all the locations most likely to contain a virus. Complete step 7 to start the Custom Scan.

9. When the scan is completed if a threat is detected on the bottom left there will be “Neutralize All”. Click Neutralize All.

10. Click the Red X at the top right to close Malwarebytes and restart the computer.

11. Repeat steps 7 to 10 until there are no more threats detected.

 

 

Run Free Spybot

2. Install Spybot by double clicking spybot***.exe and following the instructions.

3. Open Spybot – SD Start Center. Start > (All) Programs > Spybot – Search & Destroy 2 > Spybot – SD Start Center

4. To run the Update Click “Update”. Once updated Click “OK” then click the Red X to close Update window.

5. To run the System Scan Click “System Scan” then “Start a scan” on the right.
6. When the scan is completed Click “Show Scan Results”.

7. Take a Screenshot (See ** How to take a screenshot) of the results. Then Click “Fix Selected”.

8. Click the Red X at the top right to close Spybot and restart the computer.

Run Windows Update
Vista
1. Open Windows Update, Click the “Start” orb and type Windows Update in the instant search box. Windows Update appears in the list for you to choose. At the user prompt, click “Continue.”

2. Click “Check for Updates” in the left navigation bar.

3. For “All Important Updates” Click “Install.”

4. Reboot your computer if prompted.

Windows 7 and Windows 8
1. Open Windows Update, Click the “Start” orb and type Windows Update in the instant search box. Windows Update appears in the list for you to choose.

2. Click “Check for updates;” it is located on the left hand-side of the open window.

3. For “All Important Updates” Click “Install.”

4. Reboot your computer if prompted.

XP
1. Open Windows Update, Click the “Start” button at the bottom right. Click “All Programs”, Click Windows Update usually at the top of the list.

2. Click Express

3. For “All Updates” Click “Install.”

4. Reboot your computer if prompted.

** How to take a screenshot **
To take a screenshot please follow these steps

1. Click on the window you wish to take a screenshot of.

2. Press the Print screen (often abbreviated Prt Scr, Print Scrn, Prt Scn, Prt Sc, Prt Scrn, or Prnt Scrn) key on your keyboard.

3. Open MS Paint (Located in START -> Programs -> Accessories -> Paint)
**If you cannot select “Paste” complete steps 1 to 4 again. Still cannot select “Paste” and you on a laptop click the function key (FN) then complete steps 1 to 4 again.**

4. In MS Paint, click on the Edit menu and select paste (This will paste your screenshot)

5. Click on the File Menu and select Save AS

6. Change the Save As Type to JPG. NOTE: This is important to keep the file small

7. Give the file a descriptive name (IE: drweb.jpg, malwarebyte.jpg, or spybot.jpg)

8. Take note of the location it is saving to. I recommend selecting “Desktop”. Click Save
